Dear Gessnerallee visitors, dear culture enthusiasts, dear artists

Last Sunday, the ‘Swiss Performance Award 2024’ was presented at Gessnerallee. The event was a complete success with an extremely good atmosphere and around 300 visitors. The works of the nominees Луcија Berlin, Sultan Çoban, Lilian Frei, Markus Goessi, Maria Fernanda Ordoñez Pinzon, Lean Rüegg and Rebecca Solari were shown in the Südbühne, the Nordflügel, the Halle and in front of Stall6 – seven artistic positions from different generations with very different aesthetics and themes. The whole day was organised as a relaxed event so that neurodivergent people also felt welcome. – And the winners of the competition are Markus Goessi (performance prize worth CHF 30’000) and Lean Rüegg (audience prize worth CHF 5000). We congratulate the winners and are thrilled for them. To the press release

After the school holidays, we are now embarking on an exciting autumn and winter and are looking forward to the upcoming programme. Recently we added the following productions and events to our website:

On 7 November, the multidisciplinary artist Dawuna will be our guest for a concert at Stall6. Dawuna uses music as his main medium and has released several fan and critically acclaimed projects. These works encompass many different styles of experimental Black music, with influences ranging from Prince and D'Angelo to Jim O'Rourke and George Gershwin. More information

On 5, 6 and 7 December we will be showing ‘Exposure’. Therein performance artist Alexandra Bachzetsis and the dancers of the Swedish company Cullberg examine strategies for representing the naked body in art, film, fashion and digital culture. More information

On 7 December, the queer-feminist sex shop untamed.love will be celebrating its fifth birthday with the ‘untamed.night’ with lots of glitter and surprises at Stall6.

On 12 December, as part of the reading ‘Szenen der Flucht’, ’various authors will read from the latest issue of the paperless newspaper. The stories provide insights into the different realities of life for those who have been rejected, temporarily or permanently admitted.

One day later, ‘Unsightly Drag and Friends’ by the Drag Kings, Queens and Things from Quiplash from the UK will continue, providing a somewhat different cabaret evening on 13 and 14 December. We are already looking forward to the event, which will be a mix of musical and stand-up comedy, abstract worlds and smooth moves. More information

We then start the new year with Thom Luz & Ensemble and their musical theatre creation ‘Tourist Trap’ (9, 10, 11 and 12 January), which takes the audience into an abandoned tourist magnet. Fleeting illusions of a bygone era are created on the ruins of a once splendid place. More information

This is immediately followed by the hugely acclaimed spoken word show ‘COLD’ by Fatima Moumouni & Laurin Buser. The poetic and humorous hit show against indifference will be performed again at the Gessnerallee on 15 and 16 January. More information
