Five forgotten employees wait for customers in the withered ruins of a once buzzing tourist magnet, resurrecting the old splendour of the place from rubble and leftover instruments. Because, as in real life, if you can no longer create an illusion, you're finished. But memories are notoriously fragmentary and contradictory, and where have we ended up here anyway? Is this a viewpoint or a dead end? A fashionable health resort? A sacred place, or just a backdrop? And where have all the people, trees, animals and wonders disappeared to?

A new musical theatre creation, finely composed by Thom Luz & Ensemble.

  • Thom Luz was born in Zurich and studied at the Zurich University of Music and Theatre. He has staged productions in the independent theatre scene and at municipal theatres in Switzerland, Germany and France. In 2014, he was voted Young Director of the Year by the trade magazine ‘Theater heute’. From 2015 to 2020, Thom Luz was in-house director at Theater Basel. His productions have been invited to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt, the Autorentheatertage at the Deutsches Theater Berlin and the Kontakt International Theatre Festival Toruń, the Maillon Strasbourg and the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers Paris. His productions ‘When I Die’, ‘Unusual Weather Phenomena Project’ and ‘Girl From The Fog Machine Factory’ have toured the world. At the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, he staged Max Frisch's ‘Man Appears in the Holocene’ in 2016 and Thomas Bernhard's ‘Old Masters’ in 2018. In 2019, Thom Luz worked with the Residenztheater Munich and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin for the first time. In the same year, he was awarded the Swiss Theatre Prize. In the 20/21 season, he created ‘Lieder ohne Worte’, another independent production in Zurich and Basel.
