‘IN THE BRAIN’ by Shechter II (GBR), Hofesh Shechter
Friday, 13 March, and Saturday, 14 March, 8 pm
Hofesh Shechter, known for the high intensity and dynamism of his characteristic ensemble work, has developed a full-length piece with his Junior Company, which will celebrate its world premiere as part of Steps. Together with the eight performers, the UK-based choreographer explores the freedom, energy and intimacy found in both club culture and contemporary dance: a collective experience for all the senses. ‘valse, valse, valse – short version and workshop’, Johanna Heusser
Saturday, 14 March, 5 pm
Waltz with a difference: as part of Steps, Basel-based choreographer Johanna Heusser is creating a 15- to 20-minute duet from her existing piece ‘valse, valse, valse’, which takes place away from the classical stage.
Framed by a participatory, approximately 40-minute workshop, the short version offers a playful introduction to the art of waltz dancing. A mini dance class for everyone – participation is free of charge, but registration is required. More information
‘Dances Like a Bomb’ by Junk Ensemble (IRL), Jessica and Megan Kennedy
Wednesday, 18 March, 8 pm
A powerful and touching duet on the theme of ageing and care. Behind this successful production are Irish twin sisters Jessica and Megan Kennedy from Junk Ensemble. Together with the performers, they have created a dance theatre piece that provides insight into the relationship between two elderly people:
Former Pina Bausch dancer Finola Cronan and actor Luc Dunberry meet in a dark room. What unfolds over the course of the following hour is an entertaining sequence of short scenes that culminate in a devoted and touching evening of dance: sometimes theatrical, sometimes vulnerable and often hilarious. The event is sold out. There are a few remaining tickets available at the box office.
‘CADELA FORÇA TRILOGY – Chapter I: The Bride and The Goodnight Cinderella’ by Carolina Bianchi Y Cara de Cavalo
Sunday, 29 March, 6 pm
A poetic evening into the human abyss, dealing with the brutal violence against women as a result of knockout drops. The play by Brazilian director Carolina Bianchi, in its vulnerability and enormous power, is a radical reflection on violence against women, art and death.
The internationally acclaimed production is finally coming to Zurich, a city that is deeply affected by the subject matter. To the tickets
