The programme in March

A guest performance from Bern, a postponed premiere and a musically lively Südbühne. Weekly letter #26

Team Gessnerallee, February 26, 2025

Dear visitors to Gessnerallee, dear artists

March is coming. At last. And very soon. We're longing for warmer days and sunshine - and we're looking forward to a packed March programme.

But first an important note:

The premiere and subsequent performances of ‘Movements - myself and the many’ have to be postponed. Because one of the people involved in the production fell ill in the run-up to the intensive final rehearsal phase, the technical set-up and stage rehearsals could not be carried out as planned. In order to guarantee the creation sufficient time to work on the artistic quality, the performances in March have been cancelled and will take place at a later date. People who have already booked tickets can have the amount paid refunded or issued as a voucher and will be contacted directly by our box office team.

And now to the programme:

With the March Mix the artist collective Year-To-Date has created a dense and exciting month-long music programme. From Sunday to Friday, Year-To-Date invites you to concerts, workshops, listening sessions and much more. Current details of the programme can be found here: https://ytd.today. We recommend just turning up and seeing what happens. The programme is rounded off with three concert formats in the north wing: Modulaw - ‘The Songweaver’ on 28 February, SONOSYNTHESIS on 1 March and Alpha Maid on 14 March.

The article by Elia Brülhart, which appeared last week on ‘Kulturzüri’, provides a deeper insight into the Modulaw concert.

The following week, Bernese choreographer Anna Chiedza Spörri will present ‘PERSPECTIVES’ (19 and 20 March), a touching and stirring work in which hip-hop and contemporary dance, spoken word and beats become powerful tools for dealing with discrimination.

To round off the month, the band ‘Murnau's Head’ will be playing at Stall6 on 28 March. ‘Murnau's Head’ are León Zehnder and Gessnerallee sound engineer Stephen Thomas on electric guitar, The weathereye on drums and Altin Asllani on keys. Impressions of their music can be found on their Instagram channel.

Last but not least, our two monthly recurring formats will take place:

ARITA (Association for Rights in the Arts) offers legal advice, with lawyers advising artists of all disciplines on legal matters in the offices of Gessnerallee (5 March). And ‘Art in Conflict’ is a series of talks on artistic creation in crisis regions organised by artasfoundation. Once a month, different actors come together and reflect on their experiences in the form of a round table discussion. This time on the topic of ‘Georgia in upheaval’ (12 March).

This is the month of March. Now for the weekly overview of programme items, newspaper articles, news and everything we want to share with you:

A little tip: On 4 and 5 March 2025, the symposium ‘Care in Times of Darkness’, curated by Zurich artist Simone Truong, will take place at 745 Viscosistadt, Aktionshalle in Lucerne. The symposium deals with care as an artistic practice in a complex present age.
