Dear visitors to Gessnerallee, dear artists

On 19 and 20 March, Bernese choreographer, dancer and activist Anna Chiedza Spörri will be performing ‘PERSPECTIVES’ at Gessnerallee. In the piece, she and dancers Eshidoreen Paradiso, Sophie Chioma Gerber and Gifti Tekako express what it feels like to be exposed to racist microaggressions every day. For a portrait in the third issue of our newspaper our Head of Communications Rahel Bains visited Anna Chiedza Spörri in the ‘café revolution’ in Bern, a physical safe space for active anti-racist work, self-empowerment, education, culture, as well as for meetings, exchange and networking for Black and Black-read FINTA*. You can find out why the artist is still nervous before every performance of ‘PERSPECTIVES’, what she means by the phrase ‘Black Lives Matter made my career’ and how the audience's reaction and the dancers' body language have changed over the last two years in our portrait - or in our third print edition, which will be published on 19 March.

Incidentally, the performances of ‘PERSPECTIVES’ are almost sold out, so anyone interested needs to secure a seat quickly. To the tickets

Open call for the BRÜCKI short piece festival

From 20 to 22 June, BRÜCKI 235, the self-managed space for dance, theatre and performance, celebrates its second anniversary at Gessnerallee.

As with the opening in 2023, Zurich's stage artists are invited to take part in a lavish short play festival. All dance, theatre and performance creators can apply to take part with pieces up to 20 minutes long. The only criteria are professionalism (no amateurs) and a connection to Zurich. As always, Brücki 235 has no traditional curation: the programme is drawn up by the Szenerat, made up of representatives of Zurich's dance, theatre and performance scene.

Interested parties can fill out the following form by 15 March: bruecki235.ch/auffuehrungsfenster/ - registration only takes ten minutes and does not usually require a detailed dossier.

We look forward to your visit.

PS: Do you enjoy good cultural stories? Or do you know someone who doesn't like going to the theatre so much, but loves reading? Then we recommend a subscription to our printed newspaper, which is published four times a season. It costs CHF 20 (excl. postage) and you can order it directly at zeitung@gessnerallee.ch.

*FINTA is an abbreviation for ‘woman, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people’ and refers to a group of people who experience discrimination because of their gender identity or gender expression.
