‘How can loss be overcome with courage and humour? How does artistic work shape experiences of grief, and how does grief in turn shape artistic approaches? What happens when we turn to our emotions instead of suppressing them or expressing them unfiltered?’

Reclaiming Grief is an artistic research and exchange project in which artists Edwin Ramirez, Veza Fernandez, Nele Solf, Sarah Sternat, Teresa Vittucci, Elizabeth Waterhouse and Jessica Huber jointly explore how grief can be reclaimed as a space for connection, creative metabolism and learning. Grief is not viewed exclusively as a personal process, but always as a political one, shaped by the struggle for representation and the right to be seen and heard.

As part of a ‘process sharing’ event, the studio doors will be opened to allow others to participate in the questions and practices that have accompanied the group.

The RECLAIMING GRIEF labs are part of the first chapter of On Being Affected – How Emotions Re_build Society, a long-term project by Teresa Vittucci developed within the four-year concept funding of the City of Zurich. This overarching project examines emotions as social and political forces and unfolds in three chapters: GRIEF, ANGER, and JOY. Through artistic research, collaborations, and performances, Teresa and her collaborators explore how emotions shape and transform social fabrics and political realities. The RECLAIMING GRIEF Labs, alongside the performance retach, which was presented at Protozone 20 at Shedhalle Zurich, form the first part On Being Affected and will be followed by a new stage work on ANGER.
