MIRLITONS is a concert, a battle, a ritual. A small platform, shoes, microphones and idiosyncratic noises are part of the duet by dancer-choreographer François Chaignaud and musician Aymeric Hainaux. It's exuberant and bizarrely nerdy here. With a score of uneven cadences, the two turn their stage into a fascinating playground with unpredictable, changing rules. An evening that is as ambiguous as the French word mirliton, which can refer to a flute, a sweet cookie, a military headdress, a verse measure or a Louis d'Or gold coin.

About the artists

  • Choreographer, dancer and singer François Chaignaud graduated from the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et danse de Paris in 2003. His works are based on encounters that combine different practices: Singing, medieval or baroque musical repertoire, contemporary dance and sacred art. This has led him to numerous collaborations, including with Marie-Caroline Hominal, Théo Mercier, Cecilia Bengolea, Nino Laisné, Marie-Pierre Brébant and Akaji Maro. He worked with large ensembles in 2018 for SOUFFLETTES (Ballet Carte Blanche from Norway) and in 2022 for T U M U L U S with Geoffroy Jourdain (Les Cris de Paris). In 2021 he founded his own production structure MANDORLE PRODUCTIONS.

Aymeric Hainaux comes from the visual arts, is a musician, publisher and poetry writer. His approach to human beatbox is idiosyncratic, direct and radical, his technique incomparable. With his label Isola Records, he publishes books, cassettes, CDs and records by artists and groups that operate at the boundaries of concert and performance. The diversity of his projects has led him to perform in the back rooms of restaurants as well as at prestigious venues, including Mixart Myrys, the CND (Centre National de la Dance), Les Siestes Électroniques, Palais de Tokyo and the Sonic Protest festival. In Zurich, he recently performed with his music brut duo Cantenag Dagar at the Bosch Bar.
