Eight professional dancers aged between 60 and 70 delve into the archives of their bodies and use memories, movement and improvisation to lay open connections to the history of Gessnerallee.

In 2026, the collective dance me to the end will focus on exploring their body archive(s) and consciously relating them to the history of the theatre Gessnerallee. In their research, they weave individual biographical references to the institution with the history of the theatre and its protagonists since the 1980s. During the showing in Nordflügel, thematic movement research and improvisations create a space of resonance based on physical knowledge, spatial memory and documentary traces.

As part of the showing, the collective questions the individual and collective body archive in conversation with dance scholar Dr Julia Wehren: How can history be experienced from the present when memories are constantly being overwritten and history appears only fragmentary and incomplete? How can bodies become sensors that absorb, filter and translate history(ies) into movement?

The collective dance me to the end consists of eight professional dancers aged between 60 and 70 who, as individual artists, have long been shaping the Swiss and international contemporary dance scene. Through their work, they question prevailing concepts of the body and dance, foster empowerment for older people in dance, and carry out important pioneering work, including for younger generations of dancers. They have eight different approaches to dance aesthetics and, as a collective, are developing a shared practice that encompasses somatic practices, artistic research, improvisation, and choreography. Many of the skills they have developed through years of dance practice are relevant to society: creativity, flexibility, dealing with complexity and uncertainty, understanding and appreciation of diversity. Their work and research began in 2023 and can now be continued from 2026 onwards thanks to being accomplices of Tanzhaus Zürich and the two-year concept funding of the city of Zurich.
