FAIRCHECK#02 is an event organised by the Zurich-based FAIRSPEC initiative, which aims to establish ethical guidelines and working methods in the independent scene. FAIRCHECK#02 explores the concepts of eye level and communication culture from the Fairspec Kodex.

The passages in question state that a listening, attentive and mutually favourable feedback culture should be facilitated and spaces for crisis management should be opened up at a structural level. Conflict is seen as part of the work process that should not be avoided, but rather resolved. In production realities, however, this often appears to be a burden and conflicts are often protracted.

Working relationships are also riddled with structural asymmetries that cannot simply be formally resolved. Can meeting at ‘eye level’ even be the goal under these circumstances, or do we need to be more aware of power and privilege in order to be able to act sensitively and responsibly in accordance with our own position? And how can we understand communication culture and work structure integrally as part of an artistic process and not as an incidental necessity?

The programme includes an input on the focus from a structural  perspective, a discussion with Pia Ringel (FLUX crew) and Kathrin Walde (artFAQ), among others, discussion in plenary and exchange in small groups. Of course, your physical well-being will also be catered for – with breaks, coffee & croissants and lunch.

We invite you to exchange ideas, listen, join in and think ahead in order to share knowledge, approaches and tools and take them with us into our everyday working lives.
