Dear visitors to Gessnerallee, dear artists

A season is drawing to a close: this weekend, we’re celebrating its finale with three works by local artists. A visit to the Gessnerallee is particularly worthwhile if the heat is getting to you and you’re in the mood for some playful fun and sharp thinking. The walls of the old building keep tempers cool and provide space for reflection; there are also glitches and ice lollies, a games show and a quiz show, as well as nuanced discussions and excellent music.

Here are some suggestions for combining events:

Friday, 19 June

6 pm: ‘INSIDE_OUT’ by Kian Amadeus H. and Sarah Calörtscher

8 pm: ‘Neue Unsicherheit’ by Fatima Moumouni with Donya Speaks

10.30 pm: ‘LEGION SEVEN and DJ Madônja’

Saturday, 20 June

6 pm: ‘INSIDE_OUT’ by Kian Amadeus H. and Sarah Calörtscher

7.30 pm: ‘KAFi Q: An inclusive SUMMER QUIZ NIGHT’

On Friday, 19 June, the work ‘INSIDE_OUT’ by Kian Schwabe and Sarah Calörtscher will premiere – a delicate, bizarre game exploring the porous boundaries between the self and the other, fantasies of security and notions of (non-)belonging. A participatory personality test even for those who tend to fear participation and the fetishisation of personality. Because ‘INSIDE_OUT’ is an evening for shy people, created by shy people. And there’s a prize at the end. Book tickets

Perhaps not shy, but venturing into uncertain territory, the evening continues with ‘Neue Unsicherheit’ by author and presenter Fatima Moumouni. This time, the guest is Donya Speaks, a dance and theatre artist from Bern and Tunis. In light of the unimaginable violence and suffering in Gaza, they’ll discuss what it means, as artists, to deal responsibly with societal desensitisation and crises. Tickets

Following the ‘Uncertain Conversation’ with Fatima Moumouni and Donya Speaks, there’ll be a hang-out featuring a musical performance by storyteller and musician LEGION SEVEN (travelling from Berlin) and a DJ set by Dania Murad, aka DJ Madônja. More information

On Saturday 20 June, last but not least, KAFi Q are hosting an enchanting, inclusive quiz night at Stall6 and the beautiful courtyard of the Gessnerallee, offering plenty of questions – but also answers – as well as cocktails, snacks and cool prizes. More information

That brings our programme for this season to a close – and makes us all the more excited for the coming season.

Now for the weekly round-up of newspaper articles, news and everything we want to share with you.

Newspaper

The New Uncertainty is back!

In her Artist Note, Fatima Moumouni asks what happens when uncertainty is not hidden away but allowed to surface. In her series ‘The New Uncertainty’, hesitation and searching become a method, creating space for vulnerability and collective thinking. The final instalment before the summer break takes place on 19 June. Read the article

Furthermore

For anyone already wondering what they’ll do all summer without dance, theatre, performance and music, relief is on the way. (Almost) just in time for the end of our season on 19 June, the programme for the Zürcher Theater Spektakel will be published. And this year we’re particularly excited, as the large-scale work ‘Multitud’ by Uruguayan choreographer Tamara Cubas will be staged at the Gessnerallee before moving on to the Landiwiese.

Here’s to a wonderful summer and inspiring encounters.
