«Die Insel» («The Island») is a music theatre work inspired by «Rinaldo und Alcina», an opera by blind composer Maria Theresia Paradis. Composed around 300 years ago, the music from her opera is now lost. On stage, actress Athena Lange, opera singer Marie Sophie Richter, choreographer Sophia Neises and composer Leo Hofmann breathe new life into the surviving libretto. Working as an ensemble of artists with different modes of perception, [in]operabilities have composed a new opera that operates on various sensory levels. «Die Insel» is an emotional testing ground for encounter and contact, confusion and comprehension – a place where magic and surprises abound. The audience enters the island, becoming part of a mystical world full of vibrations, sound, voices, and gestures. Touched by light and wind, they experience what making music for all of the senses can mean.
